Often times we look for that "one" tool to help us get organized, stay organized and dramatically help us improve our personal and professional life. Whether you embrace technology, or you're more of a pen and paper type of person,  by combining the use of these tools you can stay organized and get things done.

  1. Sticky Notes: Learn to use them effectively. Write a simple action to be done, and give with a goal date. Lay them on a grid on your refrigerator, or on your office wall. Once you're done with the task, crumble the sticky note and throw it away.
  2. Google Calendar: With the use of email and technology, Google makes it easy to create your online calendar and integrate it with your email account. The best thing is you can also synchronize it with your mobile phone and always know what is on your agenda. Visit: www.Google.com/calendar
  3. Index Cards: Create a to-list and carry it with you. Write one item per card and create a stack. For maximum benefit, duplicate the stack and keep one in the office, one at home, and one in the car.
  4. Notepad and Paper: Classic and ideal. A small notepad and your favorite pen will help you create to-do lists, capture your ideas and information and stay organized. Its worked in the past, and it could work for you.
  5. Keep To-Do list short: Keep them short, no more than 5 items. Anything more than that will get overwhelming. If your list is bigger, rethink it and simplify it. Do not include on this list Goals, or Projects, these are all composed of multiple action to-do items.
  6. Clear out your Email Inbox: Spend one afternoon and clear out your inbox. A clear inbox is a clear mind. Think of it a fresh restart. Print any emails that need action and delete or archive the rest.
  7. Gadgets: Turn your phone into a personal assistant, start using its calendar and notes features to stay organized. Visit your local store and buy a gadget to stay organized, think iPad, PDA, or a Smart phone.
  8. The Garbage Can: Go through the stack of paper pilling on your desk. Figure out what items no longer require any action, what has expired, what is no longer of interest and throw it all away. Embrace the power of simplifying and enjoy seeing your garbage can fill.

Implement the use of the tools that best suit your lifestyle and see your productivity increase as a result of staying organized. Happy Organizing!
