Prioritizing Urgent Tasks

Far to often we will find ourselves rushing to take care of urgent matters. These are things that pop up unexpectedly during our day, but require our immediate attention for one reason or another.
The question we need to ask is “what makes them urgent?” Is this really something that need immediate attention? If so, then do it. You may be surprised to find out that some urgent things can wait.
For example my current employer always makes tasks that he wants done sound urgent. It is just the way that he presents them. We as his employees have learned to ask him when he want us to do something “when does this need to be done?”
We also let him know what we have going on that day as ask him what he feels is the priority. This has made a big difference for each of us in the office. We are not continually running around doing “urgent” things, and have a clearer picture of what needs to be done and when.
Learning to evaluate what is really urgent and what is not, allows you to adjust your work tasks as necessary to fit in the new task that needs to get done.
Work can get pretty hectic at times, learning what to do and when will help keep it in order.
