Does a Thank You Note Make a Difference After an Interview?

Giving thanks to those who do something nice for us is appreciated more than we can really understand, unless you have been the recipient of unsolicited thanks.  So often we utter the words "thank you" when someone helps us almost without thinking, it is a habit, but taking it a step further can really show how much you really do appreciate what was done.  For instance in our medical office we practice serving patients with awesome, excellent service.  Many times we hear nothing back from them about our service, but that doesn’t stop us from doing it.  But then there are those people who go out of their way to thank us either by writing a letter, sending a card or they bring us goodies!  When these extra thoughts of kindness are expressed by our patients for what we do for them, it makes us feel so good because we get confirmation that we do make a difference in people’s lives.

In Harry and Christine Beckwith’s book "You Inc." they write a short passage about "thanks" which I found interesting because I have hired people who have sent me a card or note after being interviewed.  Here is what they wrote; "Three in four executives consider applicants’ thank-you notes in making hiring decisions.  Apparently, most people do not realize this.  Only one in three applicants thinks to send a thank-you note.  This suggest again the wisdom of simply showing up.  It appears that two in three people do not."

Take the extra time to do something extra to say "thank you" to those that have given you great service or have taken time to listen to you in one way or another, it will make those you do feel great and you will feel wonderful that you did.

"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them." ~ John F. Kennedy, 35th U.S. President
