Ahh.. the old comfort zone… The place that we really would prefer to stay because we know it all too well.
I was talking to a young lady yesterday who told me that she could not believe that her husband was so much like his father. Her father-in-law, doesn’t like to do much of anything except go to work, come home, relax and wait for his wonderful wife to wait on him hand-and-foot. He does not like to go out and be around other people, or friends. He likes the comfort of his own home and to be with just his wife and children.
She said that her husband and his father, just do not want to leave their comfort zone. They have created a nice “zone” for them and that is all that they need. They like the same routine, and get very upset if change even tries to come their way.
At first this was very hard for her to understand because this is not her way, but they are learning to work together and he certainly does not mind if she wants to take the kids somewhere, like Disneyland, where there are way too many people for his liking.
The comfort zone for each of us can be a strong force that pulls us into itself. If we want to grow and experience newness in life and stretch our wings, then we need to step beyond our personal comfort zone. It is scary, yet it is exhilarating. One does not know what may be waiting for us in uncharted territories.
Life is to be experienced and we have a choice how we choose to do it. For me, I choose moving beyond my CF zone to see what is waiting ahead. What choice are you making? There is no wrong answer….
